The treat of knowing...
Congratulations to Ally for being featured by QCSD news and her amazing blog!
The blog can be found by clicking here or http://thetreatofknowing.blogspot.com/ . All of
the students in social studies this year have the option to blog about their
learning and reflect on their middle school experiences. You can also check out
our team blog here or http://roomc139.blogspot.com/ . Students work
together via Google docs to co-author posts.

PRimary vs. secondary sources
The classes finished their study of Primary and Secondary sources with a Google Hangout with QCSD Superintendent Dr. Andrejko. In recognition of the 150th Anniversary of the Gettysburg address, students discussed, memorized, and shared their thoughts about this primary document. Way to go Emma!
ice, ice baby
After researching the Iceman, Otzi, students developed their own theories of his demise based on the evidence. Students either wrote narratives or created comics highlighting the last moments of Otzi's life in the Alps.
Classes also examined artifacts to help them understand some of the difficulties archaeologists face when examining the past.
augmented reality - the wave of the future
Classes began their work on creating an interactive word wall using layAR - an augmented reality app that brings the words to life! Look for the finished products when we return from break in January! Classes were taught about this app by Mrs. Malespina - a stellar librarian from South Orange Middle School in NJ who joined us via a Google Hangout. Check out the tutorial here.
